Gulf Coast Box Turtle
Native to areas along the Gulf of Mexico, Gulf Coast Box Turtles are the largest subspecies of the Common Box Turtle.
They have a large, domed upper shell that’s typically dark brown or black with yellow stripes or blotches.
They’re not aquatic turtles, but they do love to be around water. In the wild, they’re often found in marshes and swamps.
