Barn Owl

Barn Owls are distinctive from all other North American owls by their white heart shaped face. They have black eyes, a golden colour, pale lightly speckled underparts and long legs.

The Barn Owl is a mid-sized owl that lacks the ear tuffs found on other types of owls. Normally they are strictly nocturnal.

While many other owls hoot or whistle, the Barn Owl’s call consists of hisses, screams, cries and other strange noises.

The Barn Owl is found on all continents except Antarctica.

We have seen eight Barn Owls in our travels. Three in Utah and five in Florida.

An extremely fortunate set of circumstances led to the image of the Barn Owl in a barn on a massive orange plantation in Florida.

The flight shot is a sleepover, very early morning, wait patiently shot from Antelope Island Utah.

My spookiest, creepiest encounter with a Barn Owl was a 4 am hike in the Everglades to watch a Barn Owl glide around in the moonlight. Carefully watching where I placed my feet of course.
