Flightless Cormorant

The Flightless Cormorant, also known as the Galapagos Cormorant, is endemic to the Galapagos Islands of Fernandina and Isabela.

It is the only known cormorant that has lost the ability to fly.

The population was as low as 400 after the 1983 El Nino event but rebounded to around 900 individuals by 1999.

The cormorant’s feathers are not waterproof so they must spend time drying their small wings in the sunlight.
